This is a text delivered by Professor Adedeji at the second Anniversary Lecture of the Nigerian-French Insurance Company under the auspices of the Nigeria-
French Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Monsieur
Antoine Merieux, the Financial Adviser on West-African
Sub-Region to the Government of the Republic of France, launched the Lecture series. The lectures review the gulf war and concludes that the post-gulf war period
presents the continent with a new set of challenges in addition to those relating to the relaunching of the development process. The events in the gulf and their socio-economic and political implications were therefore
to be urgently considered not only at the economic
level but also at the political plan.
