Back to office report on mission to Rome, Italy, 1-5 June 1998

Abstract

This Back-to-Office Report summarizes the mission to Rome, Italy, from June 1-5, 1998, undertaken by Don Oben, FSSDD. The mission's objectives were to attend the Open-ended Working Group (OEWG) and the 24th Session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS), discuss FSSDD's access to FAO's online databases, and explore the possibility of obtaining national reports on the implementation of the World Food Summit Plan of Action (WFS/PA). Key discussions at the CFS focused on monitoring progress in implementing WFS/PA, the development of Food Insecurity and Vulnerability Information and Mapping Systems (FIVIMS), and improving reporting formats. The mission also included consultations with FAO officials regarding FSSDD's access to data and efforts to enhance access to FAO's databases, including FAOSTAT and FIVIMS. Additionally, the officer obtained copies of national reports submitted by African countries on the implementation of WFS/PA.
