Abstract
The Eco-Partnership Tokyo conference (26–29 May 1998), co-organized by the UN and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, aimed to foster an Eco-Society by addressing urban environmental challenges linked to global sustainability. Key themes included waste management, energy, water resources, and international cooperation, emphasizing partnerships among governments, NGOs, businesses, and citizens. The event featured mayor forums, study tours, and culminated in the Eco-Partnership Tokyo Declaration, urging sustainable urban governance, education, and technology. Parallel discussions on TICAD II (Tokyo International Conference on African Development) highlighted African development priorities, including poverty alleviation and private sector growth. The conference underscored the role of cities in driving ecological transformation through shared best practices and multi-stakeholder collaboration.
