Report on mission to the Republic of Tanzania (URT) from 24th November to 9th December 1988

Abstract

To date, UNFPA has remained the major source of financial and technical assistance for the population programme in URT. The UHT became a recipient of UNFPA assistance in the field of population starting in 1971. At the time, three project were funded - publications of the 1967 census results teaching obstetrics and genecology at the University of Dar es Salaam and a programme of better living. In 1978. at the request of the Government of URT, the UNFPA undertook a needs assessment mission" and identified the need for awareness creation development of health personnel integration of child spacing services into MCH clinics promotion of population policy formulation and introduction of demographic variables in 80cioeconornic planning. Subsequently, two country programmes were developed
