Abstract

In his closing remarks at the Special Commemorative Meeting of the General Assembly on the occasion of the United Nations' fiftieth anniversary, Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali reflects on the historic gathering of 129 world leaders, the largest such assembly in history. He emphasizes the reaffirmation of the principles of the UN Charter and the commitment to redirect the organization towards greater service to humanity, particularly for those most in need. Boutros-Ghali expresses gratitude to various contributors, including Ambassador Butler, the Preparatory Committee, non-governmental organizations, non-member states, specialized agencies, and the host nation, the United States.
