In the south-western part of Tunisia, not very far from the border with Algeria, lies Gafsa - an urban center closes to the immense Sahara and under the burning sunrays of the desert. This small city is divided into two separate parts by a seasonal stream, originating in Algeria where it is called Oued el Khebir, and flowing through Gaffs where they call it Oued Bayech. Gafsa -ville where public agencies, administration and enterprises are concentrated is almost totally surrounded by the bed of the stream, while Gafsa- Ksar which has mushroomed around this center, and where the workers have their overnight homes, ensures the necessary supplies to the town.
