The Economic Commission for Africa have recognized the valuable contribution which international voluntary agency have been
making to African development. It consider the work being done by these voluntary agency, at the grass root village level in the countries of our region, as both realistic and far-reaching, especially as they are not encumbered by undue bureaucracy and as their field personnel is highly motivated and deeply committed. The Symposium made recommendations and suggestions for fostering and increasint3 co-operation at the national and regional levels among voluntary agencies, the United Nations system and African national Governments. It also recommended the establishment and operation, by ECA, of a Voluntary Agencies Bureau, which would attend to specific requests from voluntary agencies for pre-investment studies, assistance in field management of on-going projects and in post project evaluation activities.
