The present document is the result of the fruitful cooperation between the Sahel Institute, a CILSS organ and the Economic Commission for Africa. After ten years of existence of the CILSS and close cooperation between the member countries, this study endeavors to take stock of the activities carried out and consider the general development of the economy by dwelling on three sectors in particular: agriculture, energy and transport. Such a study was necessary in order to stock of the present situation and to identify the problems encountered and those that will pose in the Sahel in future, and further because the economic situation of the African continent, especially that of the least developed countries which include six Sahelian state, had worsened.
