Report of the national workshop on employment planning and productivity enhancement in Sudan

Abstract

This report presents key discussions and outcomes from the National Workshop on Employment Planning and Productivity Enhancement in Sudan, held in October 1994. Jointly organized by the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the Sudanese Ministry of Labour, the workshop addressed challenges related to rising unemployment and low productivity. Key issues included the disconnect between education and labor market demands, the impact of structural adjustment programs, and the role of the informal and agricultural sectors in job creation. Recommendations emphasized improving education and training, enhancing productivity, strengthening employment planning, and fostering private sector and informal sector growth. The workshop underscored the need for integrated policies to address unemployment and poverty in Sudan.
