Proposed merger between the African regional center for engineering design and manufacturing (ARCEDEM) and the African regional center for technology (ARCT)

Abstract

In 1983 the ECA Conference of Ministers established an ad-hoc committee to undertake an evaluation of the institutions, and to make proposal of their continued usefulness. The committee did not recommend a change from the status quo. It, however, found that there was need on the part of Member States to regularize their contributions. Due to economic changes, for the worse, over most of Africa, contributions dropped from among priority items of many a Member State, and in spite of the recommendations, the institutions continued to receive lesser and lesser financial support or contributions; and their sustainability was in question again.
