Food and agricultural situation in the Niamey based MULPOC

The food situation in the Niamey MULPOC subregion was precarious in 1982 and 1983.overall food production increased by 4.0 percent but per capital production continued to decline. On the other hand, food consumption and demand persistently increased. The most recent information on food demand in the subregion is not yet available however data for the period 1974-1981 indicate that while demand increased at 2.8 percent per annum the overall food production increased by only 1.8 percent. The subregion has thus continued to witness a persistent as against 7.0 metric tons in 1980 .
