Population and development

Abstract

This paper attempts to illustrate some of the interrelationships between population and development as it relates to agriculture, rural planning, food production, employment etc., with particular emphasis on Africa. Initially the paper presents the demographic setting and prospects followed by the relations and interaction between population variables and economic development with emphasis on rural development. The third part briefly presents the role of population policies in development, the fourth part presents the role of population projections in development planning and the last part presents conclusion and summary.
