Abstract

The Deputy Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Mr. Makhan D. Sarr, emphasized the critical role of science, technology, and technology transfer in Africa's socio-economic development. He highlighted Africa's lag in development due to insufficient transfer and absorption of scientific knowledge and technical expertise. The meeting aimed to promote comprehensive, innovation-focused science and technology policies, emphasizing technology transfer, application, and diffusion. Key discussions included the need for policy reforms, investment in human resources, and creating a conducive environment for technological change. Experts from various African countries and organizations shared experiences and challenges in technology transfer, underscoring the importance of regional cooperation, capacity building, and strategic policy frameworks to bridge the technology gap and foster sustainable development.
