This keynote address delivered by His Excellency Alhaji Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara, President of the Republic of the Gambia on the occasion of the twenty-ninth session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA)/ twentieth meeting of the conference of Ministers responsible for Economic and Social Development and Planning. His Excellency Jawara on his statement highlighted that, there are other issues which are also of critical importance to the activities of the commission, namely ethics and accountability/ debt multilateral trade, particularly in the context of the recently signed Uruguay Round Agreements/ training/ and much more. This Conference provided an excellent opportunity for discussion and the formulation of recommendations, thanks to the initiative of the Economic commission for Africa,· the co-sponsors the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the collaboration of the Organization of African unity and the African Development Bank. The objective of Africa, in the long process of the negotiations remained the achievement of a successful and balanced conclusion of the Round as perceived in the Declaration of African Heads of state and Government of the Organization of African unity on the Uruguay Round of Multilateral Trade Negotiations in Abuja, Federal Republic of Nigeria in June 1991.
