One of the major problems concerning non formal education is the unclear nature of its nomenclature because there are so many terms used to describe the concept (non-formal education and its practice). Variants of non formal education includes all out of school activities such as adult education; correspondence education; distance education and distance teaching adult literacy; literacy program; continuing education; lifelong education; further many more are typical non-formal education activities and it is not easy to say which one is most non formal. The purpose of this study therefore is to review and assess how well non-formal education has served and ministered to the needs of society, the community, individuals as well as the nation.
