Report of the joint ARCT/ECA/training workshop on capacities in the acquisiton of foreign technology for Africa

Abstract

This workshop was implemented as a joint ARCT/ECA project. The workshop was held in the ARCT headquarters in Dakar. It was attended by 18 selected senior officials from governments, institutions, organizations and agencies in African countries. The participants were all concerned with policy formulation and implementation in relation to the acquisition of imported technology and the ,development of local capabilities within broader strategies for technological development. The workshop organized by the, African' Regional Centre for Technology and the Natural Resources Division/Science and, Technology Unit of ECA got the financial support or UNDP/ARCT project. International Development Research Centre (IDRC) (Canada) supported the travel and per diem of two African officials, and in addition to the ARCT and ECA, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UIIDO) and United Nations, Centre for transportation (UNCTC) provide relevant lecturers for the workshop.
