The developing countries in Africa have compiled numerous data. on various socio-economic subjects and stored them in numerous large files which are generally kept isolated. these countries possess large statistical data resources which cannot easily be exploited satisfactorily. This is particularly the case of survey and censuses data collected since attainment of political independence attempts have been made to link the various data files with a view to establishing relationships among the data but the results have been mostly disappointing due to the technical· difficulty peculiar to the merging or linking of files of different structures.
