Report of the national training workshoop on training of teacher trainers for peace and nation building : Pan african institute for development, Buea, Cameroon

Abstract

The National Training Workshop on the Training of Teacher Trainers for Peace and Nation-Building was jointly organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the Ministry of National Education, Cameroon, under the auspices of IPAR-BUEA. Held at the Pan African Institute for Development (PAID) in Buea, Cameroon, from March 20-25, 1995, the workshop aimed to address the challenges of equipping educators with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for fostering peace, stability, and sustainable development in Cameroon and Africa at large. The workshop highlighted the need for education systems to adapt to rapid scientific, technological, and socio-political changes, emphasizing the importance of fostering qualities such as self-reliance, critical thinking, and ethical behavior. Participants discussed the role of teachers as facilitators of learning rather than mere transmitters of knowledge, stressing the importance of attitudinal and skills-based training over traditional knowledge-based approaches.
