Résumé
In Kenya a number of different types of land holdings. These can be classified as individually owned large plantations, mixed farms and ranches, settlement farms small-scale individual farms in the former reserved area, and the pastoral areas. The overall objectives of livestock development policy in Kenya are Alleviation of poverty through the creation of income generating employment in all stages of livestock production; production of surplus over domestic demand for exports whenever possible so as to earn foreign exchange; and conservation of the natural resources to ensure sustained productivity in the future. The more specific objectives of livestock development in Kenya, and the means by which these will be achieved, are described under the individual species of livestock concerned.
