Abstract
This document is a status report on the progress that has been made towards achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment on the continent. It identifies the major challenges that countries are facing and suggests recommendations that can help accelerate the progress towards achieving gender equality. This report has been prepared based on a desk-based review and analysis of published and unpublished literature to provide a synopsis of the progress made since the 40th anniversary where data is available or since 1990 where data is not available.
