Abstract

Welcome Remarks by Carlos Lopes UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of ECA at the 15th Session of the Regional Coordination Mechanism for Africa (RCM-Africa) of United Nations agencies and organizations working in Africa in support of the African Union and its NEPAD programme. Mr. Lopes, on his remarks highlighted that; we need to adapt the way we work together to reflect the changing global landscape and regional priorities. The African Union is the undisputed voice of the continent in shaping responses to global processes. The articulation of the post 2015 agenda should benefit from the African Common Position and be in tandem with the African Development Goals and the AU Agenda 2063. In other words, we must acknowledge that structural transformation is Africa’s priority and since the core, principle of capacity development is ownership, then the UN partnership must factor this objective into the partnership with the AU and its programmes and agencies.
