Presentation by Carlos Lopes UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of ECA at the 13th session of the Regional Coordination Mechanism in Africa Post 2015 Development Agenda: Emerging Perspectives from Africa. Mr. Lopes, on his remarks highlighted that, The MDGs have played an important role in Africa’s development process particularly by mobilizing resources for key development priorities. Structural transformation is identified as a critical driver of broad-based and inclusive growth. Africa’s reliance on minerals and raw materials has created growth enclaves that have left out large swathes of its population from the development process. Consultations on the post 2015 must not be limited to the development of the broad framework of the agenda. Consultations can only influence the outcomes of the post 2015 development agenda if they are championed by appropriate voices and channeled through strategic entry points.
