This Statement delivered by Carlos Lopes UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of ECA at the Eighth African Development Forum (ADF VIII). Mr. Lopes, on his remarks highlighted that, the Forum has remained true to its purpose of deepening the understanding of key development issues concerning Africa. It provides a space for stakeholders to challenge stereotypes. It contributes to vigorously debate new ideas to accelerate Africa’s transformation. Structural measures to address grievances and improve transparency, and overall governance of the sector, will require time and concerted effort by all stakeholders. Africa has made strides to formulate credible blueprints such as the African Mining Vision and the Land Policy Initiative, which if implemented will inclusive growth and economic transformation. We need now to start operationalizing such frameworks.
