Statement by Mr. Carlos Lopes UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of ECA at the 2nd annual conference on Climate Change and Development in Africa. Mr. Lopes, on his remarks highlighted that, the area of climate science and climate services. These are essential for improving the knowledge base about climate change in Africa both in terms of short-term variability and in terms of long-term trends. Climate science is a critical source of information for vulnerable groups including farmers and local communities. The knowledge what we gather, and the way we seek to improve practice in various sectors must help guide the policy process, at both national and international levels. This Second Climate Change and Development in Africa Conference offers a space for a robust exchange of knowledge and information on a broad range of issues related to our theme.
