The purpose of the mission to Accra (Ghana) was to participate in the tripartite review of the project GHA/72/PO4 “Assistance for the expansion of national registration system for births and deaths and development of vital statistics”, which is going on since 1 January 1977. The third tripartite review of the project was held on 10 January 1979 in the Conference Room of the Central Bureau of statistics, Ministry of Planning. the project aims to establish a sample registration system in a phased way. The immediate objective of the system is to obtain in a short period of time efficient vital statistics data through the establishment of a probability sample of registration areas where efforts should be concentrated to obtain reliable statistical data as well as to develop methods and procedures to feed into the civil registration system.
