This book explores the challenges and opportunities of brain drain and capacity building in Africa through various case studies. Contributors like Mercy Brown advocate for diaspora engagement strategies, exemplified by SANSA, while others highlight initiatives like TOKTEN in Guinea to harness returning expertise. However, persistent issues such as poor funding (Nigeria, Cameroon), lack of self-actualization (Ethiopia), and institutional weaknesses (Ivory Coast) exacerbate talent flight, undermining education and development. While brain drain poses significant risks, the authors argue it can be transformed into "brain gain" through targeted policies, intra-African collaboration (e.g., Dakar’s veterinary school), and stronger institutional support. The conclusion emphasizes the urgent need for African governments to adopt inclusive, innovative strategies to retain talent and leverage diaspora resources for sustainable capacity building.en
