Report on a mission to Sierra Leone (19 August - 2 September 1984)

Abstract

December 1985 has been put forward by the government as the date for census enumeration, but unfortunately no actual cartographic work, either in the office or in the field, has been started so far. The project is now a long way behind schedule. Major advancements are that a census office has now been allocated and government funding is approved in principle for the 1984/85 financial year. During a meeting with the Minister of development and economic planning, the acting director of CSO and the regional advisor noted that it had been previously estimated that it would take 16 months to complete the cartographic field work. the overall impression is that the schedule of completing preparations for a December 1985 enumeration is extremely tight indeed.
