This report summarizes the findings and recommendations from a UNECA mission conducted to explore South-South industrial cooperation, focusing on Africa. The mission, which took place in Bangkok and Indonesia from May 19 to June 5, 1995, aimed to address Africa’s economic challenges and explore enhanced cooperation with Southern countries. Key objectives included examining successful economic strategies in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly among Newly Industrialized Economies (NIEs) and ASEAN countries, and identifying potential areas for Africa-Asia collaboration. The report highlights the need for a Centre for South-South Technical Cooperation in Jakarta and suggests immediate cooperation in areas such as technology development, agriculture, and infrastructure.
