Abstract
The International Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation Decade (1981-1990) was formally launched on 10 November 1980 by the United Nations General Assembly at its thirty-fifth Session. The goals for the Water Decade were established earlier at the United Nations Water Conference held in Mar del Planta, Argentina, in March 1977. Rural Progress reproduces below the Plan of Action for community water supply. The objective of the Wanging’ombe Rural Water Supply and Rural Sanitation Projects is to improve the general health and hygiene standards of the inhabitants of 50 villages comprising about 400 to 500 families scattered over an area of approximately 1000 square kilometers. It aims at providing them with clean drinking water and instituting a means of waste disposal as well as sanitation facilities appropriate to the project area.
