Abstract

The growth in the Ivory Coast economy has stemmed mainly from the agriculture, manufacturing and construction sectors over the lass few years with secondary gains recorded in commerce, transport and services as a result of the higher level of economic activity. In 1973 the agricultural sector will benefit from the higher coffee and cotton production in the season 1972/3 and from the likelihood of higher banana and pineapple exports. For cocoa the crop in 1972/3 was reduced from the record production recorded in 1971/2 of 227,800 tons to about 190,000 tons but 1973 export prices were extremely attractive so some export gains will have been realized. the total coffee crop sold in 1972/3 was more than 300,000 tons after 269,000 tons in 1971/2.
