Report on Mission to the Central Statistics Office, Department Of Finance, Development and Economic Planning Republic Of Sierra Leone (16 September - I October 1992). The mission was received and briefed by the Resident Representative of UNDP on 22 September 1992, on the mission's work, in particular, in respect of work on household surveys and of agricultural statistics; valuable advice and guidance was received from that office. During the period of the mission's stay in Sierra Leone, visits to national and international experts and officials of a number of government departments and agencies, including the Bank of Sierra Leone, had been kindly arranged by the CSO. Sierra Leone, a republic with a total land area of 72,000 square kms., lies between the 7th and 19th parallels north of the equator and shares common borders with Guinea to the north and Liberia to the east and south, with a coastline on the Atlantic. The population density of the country is about 55.0 per km2, which is relatively high compared to the average for Africa. The RAP is Sierra-Leone's economic recovery programme Which has now been endorsed by the WB. The program aims at reversing the prolonged decline in Sierra Leone's economic performance by stabilizing the economy, improving resource allocation, strengthening the external payments position and restoring confidence, both internally and externally, in the management of the economy.
