This publication, Foreign Trade Statistics for Africa – Trade by Commodity (Series B, No. 28), complements Series A: Direction of Trade, providing detailed half-yearly data on African trade by commodity. The statistics adhere to the Standard International Trade Classification (SITC), Revised, presenting import and export values in thousand US dollars, categorized by region and trading partners. Data is structured by SITC sections, groups, and subgroups, with entries omitted if trade values fall below US$500. Abbreviated titles accompany numerical classifications for ease of reference, though full descriptions can be found in the United Nations Statistical Papers, Series M, No. 34 (1961). The figures are compiled from national reports, including publications and tabulations, and may exhibit discrepancies due to rounding, source inconsistencies, or the exclusion of gold transactions (which are omitted in Series B). The statistics are sourced from individual reporting countries and territories, based on their publications or tabulated listings. Notably, gold transactions are excluded from this dataset, and discrepancies may arise due to rounding and differences in source materials.
