The statement of the Secretary-General at the opening of the second meeting between the United Nations various kinds is now considerable. As Secretary General I want to increase common understanding of the role of these new actors. The international system must take advantage of the contribution that each of these actors can make. The United Nations has throughout its history been assisted by other actors, including regional organizations, in the maintenance of peace and Regional Organizations New York, 15 February 1996.
