Abstract
The present paper was prepared in conformity with the Work Programme of Food and Agriculture for the Biennium 1988-1989, Programme element 2.4 on Multinational Co-operation on Livestock Development in Africa. Its focus is on the performance of the sector under governmental interventions and the Structural Adjustment Programmes (SAP). Particular attention was put on the impacts of the SAP on the achievements of the goal of increased collective self-sufficiency and self-reliance in animal food production and supply.
