The African Center of Meteorological Applications for Development (ACMAD) has been in existence since 1991. It has achieved some reasonable successes despite the paucity of financial resources. The Center is now producing and disseminating medium range weather forecasts valid for days. Early this Year. the Center launched the climate data application unit with a view to monitor, produce and disseminate information on climate variability and extreme weather events including drought, floods. and. heat waves. More importantly, the unit will carry our seasonal forecasting including the provision of information to peasant farmers on whether the seasonal rains will come on time and whether they will be normal or abnormal.
