Abstract

Intense spatial population mobility has for a long time characterized African populations According to Ohadike (1974, 141), Africans have all through the ages move about, perhaps in a less systematic fashion, as pastoralists invaders pilgrims refugees and traders to lands far and near all over the continent. Recent years have witnessed two main trends in international migration, namely: intra-continental labor movement in sub-Saharan Africa towards more developed agricultural, mining and industrial regions and the largescale movements of refugees.
