UN system to launch coordination mechanism for central and West Africa

The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, West and Central Africa Sub-regional Offices, along with the UN agencies operating in Central and Western Africa are jointly convening a “High-Level Meeting on the Establishment of a Sub-Regional Coordination Mechanism (SRCM) for the United Nations System-wide Support to the African Union and its New Partnership for Africa’s Development Programme in West Africa”. The meeting will be held in Dakar, Senegal, from 5-6 October 2011. The SRCM is an initiative of the United Nations launched in 1999 to improve the activities of the various UN agencies and organizations at the regional level. The initiative aims to enhance coordination in the manner and approach in which UN agencies and organizations provide their support to the continent.
