The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs today in Addis Ababa, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Economic Commission of Africa (ECA) and committed 8 million Norwegian Kroner (about $1 million) to the work of ECA’s African Climate Policy Centre (ACPC). Thanking the Government of Norway during a short signing ceremony at ECA headquarters, the Commission’s Executive Secretary and UN Under Secretary-General, Abdoulie Janneh, said the Norwegian gesture was an expression of the confidence the Government has in ECA, adding, “We will not let you down”. The Norwegian Ambassador to Addis Ababa, Mr. Jens Petter Kjemprud, described ECA as a partner that his country has great confidence in and expressed the hope that ACPC donors could develop a common approach to supporting the Centre in order to avoid duplication and ease donor bureaucracy.
