The UNDP/EDI/ILO Programme (1987–1995) aimed to strengthen management training institutions in Sub-Saharan Africa by enhancing governance, faculty capacity, and regional collaboration. Key goals included improving institutional viability, integrating women-in-development perspectives, and fostering networking through regional associations. Fourteen national and regional institutes participated, supported by multilateral and bilateral donors. The program emphasized self-reliance, comprehensive institutional development, and sector-specific training (e.g., agriculture, business management). Implementation involved steering committees, field offices, and annual reviews to align activities with African development priorities.
