This working paper reflects the information received from the 26 countries which responded to the questionnaire. That information indicates that various forms of national machinery exist in African countries including a Ministry responsible for women’s Affairs national commission with and without a bureau generating as its secretariat a women’s wing of a national political party and a non-governmental national council. A few countries have three or four institutions, each categorized as national machinery which work side by side with the same objective of the promotion of the advancement of women.
