According to Jeanine Cooper, Chairperson of the UN Liaison Team with the African Union in Addis Ababa, African women in government, private corporations, civil society and inter-governmental institutions are the new partnership for action. “African women are managing solutions to protect their households, their communities, their countries, their regions. African women are focused on safety and security, asset protection, income generation and improving the quality of life,” she said. The celebration aims to honor and recognize outstanding women leaders who have had an impact in their countries, and communities, and those who continue to be role models to young women aspiring to be leaders.
