The need for capacity development in the use of online information resources in Africa : the case of donor-funded initiatives

Abstract

Competitiveness and advancement are dependent on information and knowledge. Knowledge is vital for the economic, political and social development of a country. It is used in policy making, in conflict and security management, in health management, in bank transactions, in business, in education, in offices, in environmental issues, in early warning systems, in productivity and competitiveness and every field of life. The more effectively people acquire, create, disseminate, and use knowledge the greater they advance economically and socially. Thus making the application of knowledge being recognized as one of the key sources of growth in the global economy (knowledge economy). (Worldbank- K4D).
