Abstract

Statement by H.E. Lt. Girma Wolde-Giorgis, President of the federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia at the Pan-African Implementation Partnership Conference on Water. H.E. Lt. Girma, on his remarks highlighted that, water scarcity in African cities fast becoming a potential source of social and political conflict. More than half of the populations living in African cities today are denied access to municipal supplies, poor service provision is extremely detrimental to the health and UN-HABITAT’s recent Global Report on water and sanitation in the world’s Cities has underscored economy of the African continent as. A key objective of the water for African Cities programme in the second phase will be to create an enabling environment in African cities to stimulate follow-up investments in water and sanitation.
