Opening Statement by Ambassador Vijay S. Mekhan, Assistant Secretary-General of the Organization of African Unity at the Conference of African Ministers of Trade, Regional Economic Integration and Tourism that took place in Addis Ababa on 14 February, 1996. This conference is a new institution designed to replace the conference of African ministers of trade the inter sectoral combination of trade tourism and economic integration in this conference reflects the recognition that fundamental changes are taking place in the world and the need to adapt and transform our institutional mechanisms respond to the momentous historical events of recent year and the exigencies of times.
