Abstract

Opening Statement by H.E. Dr. Teketel Forssido Minister of Agriculture of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia at the First Session of the Conference of African Ministers Responsible For Sustainable Development and the Environment. H. E. Teketel, on his remarks highlighted that, there is a growing consensus all over the world, shared by African countries, that development must meet the needs of the present and those of future generations contributing to the fulfillment of socio-economic aspirations and ensuring the integrity of the life support systems afforded by the environment. A special session of the General Assembly is expected to convene next year to review Agenda 21 at the highest level. The Government of Ethiopia has been closely watching how the realization of Agenda 21 is unfolding.
