Welcome Remarks by Abdalla Hamdok, Deputy Executive Secretary of ECA for the Second Pan-African Conference on Training of Translators, Interpreters and Public Service Interpreters. Deputy Executive Secretary of ECA on his welcome message said that, he pleased to welcome all to Addis Ababa, home of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and the African Union Commission and to this Second Pan-African Conference on Training of Translators, Conference Interpreters and Public Service Interpreters. It is indeed an honor for ECA to be part of this important gathering focusing on the training of translators, conference interpreters and public service interpreters as a way of curbing their growing decline on the continent and around the world. The ultimate objective of this partnership is, as stated on the project’s initial report, to have a critical mass of highly qualified African language professionals capable of fulfilling sensitive tasks of intercultural and linguistic mediation in political and business settings.en
