This concluding comment delivered by Dr. Jacinta Muteshi, Officer in Charge: UNIFEM-Ethiopia at the Commemoration of International Women’s Day 16th March. Dr. muteshi, on his remarks, stated that, The theme for International Women’s Day 2010 is “Equal Rights, Equal Opportunities: Progress for all,” and the presentations and discussions today have highlighted the state of achievement and continuing challenges faced in our respective contexts. We need to strengthen the current and limited mechanisms of state and non-state accountability to women, women’s rights and gender equality if we are to enable stronger achievement of the Beijing Platform for Action, Convention for Elimination of Discrimination against Women and the Millennium Development Goals. We need to mobilize sustainable and significant resources that facilitate the development and implementation of interventions that will actually advance gender equality and women’s empowerment.
