This Statement delivered by Mr. Abdalla Hamdok, Deputy Executive Secretary of ECA In the launch of the Economic Report on Africa 2012: Unleashing Africa’s Potential as a Pole of Global Growth. Mr. Hamdok, on his remarks highlighted that this year’s theme of the Report is “Unleashing Africa’s Potential as a Pole of Global Growth”, the same as the overall theme of this meeting. Although Africa’s growth has, since independence, been driven mainly by primary production and export, its growth resurgence since 2000 has benefited from improvements in macroeconomic management, good governance, institutional reforms and reduction in armed conflicts. The growth resurgence since the start of this century has transformed Africa from the world’s lowest growing region in the past to one of the fastest growing regions, raising its potential as a new pole of global growth.
