Abstract
The First Presidential Forum on the Management of Science and Technology in Africa, organized by the Research and Development Forum (RANDFORUM) in Gaborone, Botswana, from October 31 to November 1, 1993, marked a significant step in promoting science and technology (S&T) as a driver of development in Africa. The forum aimed to sensitize African leaders and citizens on the critical role of S&T in socio-economic development, encourage the integration of S&T strategies into national policies, and foster regional cooperation. The forum highlighted pressing issues such as inadequate funding for S&T, the need for human resource development, and the creation of an enabling environment for scientific innovation. African leaders, including Presidents from Botswana, Uganda, Mozambique, and Kenya, emphasized the importance of prioritizing S&T to address Africa's developmental challenges.
