The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), since its establishment in 1958, has increasingly been concerned that all available human resources for the development of African countries are fully utilized. ECA recognized in its progrnmme as early as 1960 the great potential of women in Africa to accelerate the pace of national and Africa Regional Development. The Regional coordinating Committee for the integration of women in development during its first session under the aegis of RCA will elect its own chairman and define the period of his tenure. The African Regional coordinating Committee is empowered to make recommendations on any matter within its competence directly to the Governments of the States members or associate members of the Economic Commission for Africa and to the United Nations specialized and voluntary agencies operating in the region.en
